I know about the litany of external HDD and SDD options, and I technically have a few kicking around I could already use, but I like the idea of having my Photos library on the computer itself instead of on an external drive for ease of backups. Ideally I’d want 1TB, as the 512GB in the aforementioned MacBook Pro always feels like it’s on the brink of being filled. 8GB is likely a bit too limited for my needs and anything more than that will likely go unnoticed in daily usage. That model comes with 16GB of RAM by default, which is probably my personal sweet spot. It’s looking like it’ll be worthwhile to move up to the M2 Pro CPU, but I’ll probably pass on the $300 upgrade for 2 more CPU and 3 more GPU cores as the performance uplift is negligible. I think I’ve settled on a M2 Mac Mini to replace my base model 2016 MacBook Pro. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this or should I maybe swap them instead? I kinda LIKE that it charges more slowly with the 30w because in my mind it is less wear and tear on the battery.unless it isn't and I don't know LOL. I don't need the MagSafe cord at home because it charges through the Thunderbolt dongle I have. So my thinking is that one of these bricks is going to be permanently parked at home for use at the desk, while the other (and the MagSafe cord) will be permanently in my bag for on-the-go charging. But.this isn't dangerous, is it? I imagine it's only dangerous if the wattage is too high, not too low, right? So I got the new MBP and it came with a 96w power adapter since I got the 12-core chip.Īnd I'm currently plugged in using an external display here and I'm still using my old MacBook Air's power adapter, which is only 30w. Since we're talking about power consumption and batteries (btw, thanks for the Al Dente tip! I will be getting that), I have a question about charging: I'm hoping it will barely kick on unless I'm playing a game. I'm definitely a little bummed to be leaving a fan-less design because no fan in my M1 has been one of the most amazing things about it. Overall, if I regret my MBP, I can always switch back to the Air with a better-value trade-in and maybe by then the M3 MacBook Air 15" will be out.If I regret the screen size and wish I went bigger, a 15" screen will feel like an upgrade down the line instead of a downgrade to the 14" if I ended up regretting getting an Air.I know that sounds insane but gaming on Mac is something I very much want to do. So I basically went the opposite route as you! I hope I don't regret going this way instead of the 15" Air. My merry-go-round between the 15" Air and the 14" Pro was sometimes nauseating. Not bad at all considering I bought it refurbished for $800 2+ years ago! I was surprised to learn that they would take my M1 MacBook Air for $500 trade-in.
